Questions

Ten questions the post keeps bringing, and the answers it gets

Each of these has arrived more than once. Anything outside the ten still reaches a person, who replies properly and usually within a few days.

The ten

Why blocks rather than neighbourhoods?

Because a neighbourhood is an average and a block is a fact. In a city with no zoning the interesting decisions were made lot by lot, and averaging them across a district hides the entire subject.

Does Houston really have no zoning?

It has no zoning ordinance, which is what makes it unusual among large American cities. It does have other rules that shape building: deed restrictions on individual subdivisions, minimum lot sizes, parking requirements and platting rules. The method page is where this publication is careful about the difference.

Do you sell anything?

No. No shop, no booking, no ticket, no membership and no price on any page. The single commercial arrangement is the look up on the front page, explained on its own page.

How is the field book paid for?

If somebody books a trip after using the look up, the booking host may pay a commission. That is the whole of the income. No record is sponsored, no mention has been paid for, and no block was ever recorded because somebody asked.

Are the distances accurate?

They are measured on foot and rounded to the nearest tenth of a mile, and they cover all four sides of the block plus the walking to get back. Times are an ordinary pace with stops, not a target.

Why is the weather at the top of every record?

Because it is the scope of what the record can claim. This city in February and this city in August are not the same place to stand in, and a record that hid which one it was would be useless in the other.

Who writes it?

Odalys Prieto, working alone, published by Keystyle Travels LLC of Houston. No payroll, no wire feed, no second byline. A reader whose note becomes a record is credited inside it. The about page carries the registered details.

Do you track visitors?

No. Not a counter, not an advertising script, not a pixel, on any page. A single line of browser storage stops the notice strip from turning up again on the next page; the privacy policy prints its name and its contents.

Something in a record is wrong. What now?

Write to [email protected] with the record and the sentence. Notes like that go to the front of the pile, are answered the same week, and are printed inside the record with the date the correction was made rather than quietly patched.
